Sleepaway Camp July 24 - August 6 at Mount St. Mary's University

Dance at the Mount

Dancers will find themselves nestled in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland for two inspiring weeks at Mount St. Mary's University. Mount St. Mary's is a small Liberal Arts University one hour north of Washington D.C. in Emmitsburg, MD.

The program will be a wonderfully intense, well rounded dance experience. The camp will showcase the newest and most innovative dance styles in jazz, hip-hop, theatre dance, ballet, modern and tap. The faculty is dedicated to providing a warm and caring approach to teaching to develop the dancers' performance, skill and technique. The dancers experience culminates in a performance open to the public and parents on August 6th at 11:00.

Derrick Evans has danced professionally with companies such as Gus Giordano and River North, worked with Michael Jackson, Liza Minelli , and is always busy creating choreography for Sony Latin Labels on their newest projects. Mr. Evans is currently a guest instructor at Western Michigan.

Joe Orlando is a world renowned teacher and choreographer. Mr. Orlando has been on the faculty of Interlochen Arts Academy, Southern Methodist University, University Of Massachusetts, Amherst, and most currently has taught at the Internationales Tanzprojekt Bielefeld, Germany.

Program Directors Bonnie Slawson and Jacqui Thomas are both professionals who have moved to this area and bring with them a wealth of national and international performance and teaching experience.

Guest Faculty Lisa Singleton, Antoine Ashley, Don Mason, Kesha Johnson, and Arlene Horowitz each bring to the program a diverse background of dance experiences to create a well- rounded dance experience environment for our dance students.

Disciplines Included: Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Hip-Hop, Tap, Theatre dance and performance rehearsals for all students. Dancers will take a minimum of 3 technique classes per day, rounded out with classes in nutrition, auditioning skills and dance history.

Recreation: There will be plenty of opportunities to swim in the new sports complex, or use the volleyball courts and softball fields. The campers will enjoy the evening dance videos, stupid human tricks/talent night and the ice cream social.

Levels: Intermediate minimum of 2 or more years of continuous dance instruction Intermediate/Advanced minimum of 3 years of continuous dance instruction in both Ballet and Jazz, or Modern and Jazz.

Camp Fees

Before May 21st: Registration $1,600.00. Registration down payment of $350.00 is due May 20.
Late Registration: $1,750.00

General Information and Application Form

Location Motion Mania's two-week sleep away Summer Dance camp is held at Mount St. Mary's College nestled in the inspiring and picturesque Catoctin Mountains of Maryland. Mount St. Mary's College is a small liberal Arts College one hour north of Washington, D.C. on route 15 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Supervision All campers are under the careful supervision of the Motion Mania camp staff. Counselors live in the residence halls with the campers, and closely monitor all aspects of camp life. The dance program is co-directed by Artistic Directors Bonnie Slawson (Motion Mania Dance Theatre) and Jacqui Thomas (Souls of the Feet). The 2005 faculty will include Derrick Evans (choreographer for Sony Latin Records, dancer and rehearsal captain for Gus Giordano and is currently on faculty at Western Michigan University), Joe Orlando (Interlochen Arts Academy, Southern Methodist University, Internationales Tanzprojekt Bielefield). Lisa Singleton (Georgetown Visitation, Kings Dominion, Catholic University). Special guest faculty will include Kesha Johnson, Don Mason and Antoine Ashley. Mr. Mason and Mr. Ashley have just finished working on tour in Japan with Disney.

Residential Campers Resident campers live in air-conditioned residence halls, five per suite. The suites are air-conditioned and include a private bathroom and a refrigerator. Boys and girls are housed separately. Campers must bring their own sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets and mattress pads for a single bed, as well as towels, washcloths, hangers and laundry bags. Coin-operated washers and dryers are available - bring your own detergent and a supply of quarters.

Meals Meals are served beginning Sunday for dinner and ending with Saturday breakfast.

Recreation To balance the artistic experiences, there are opportunities for free recreation daily. Organized activities include ice cream socials, swimming, talent/skit night, weekend picnic, with an end-of- camp student show on Saturday morning for the parents.

Dress Dress is summer casual. Dancers must bring leotards, tights and footwear appropriate for ballet, modern, tap and jazz class (jazz sneakers and shoes), rehearsals and performance, plus cover-ups for meals.

Health Care The College Wellness Center is available for prompt, professional medical care, if needed. In the unlikely event that a student would need hospital care, immediate transportation to the nearest hospital would be arranged. Cost resulting from medication, x-rays, lab work, or hospital treatment is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.

Transportation Transportation will not be provided to or from camp; we will be happy to help find transportation if needed.

Additional Information After your application has been received and accepted, we will forward additional material, including when and where to come, a map, schedule, and all other information needed to plan your trip.

Auditions

Pre-Camp Students who cannot come personally to either Souls of the Feet (Frederick, MD) or Motion Mania Dance Center (Gaithersburg, MD) to audition must send a short video to Motion Mania Dance Center.

Placement Auditions Placement auditions are held immediately after check-in for all campers.

Levels

All camps are Mon.-Fri. 9AM-1PM unless otherwise stated $195 per session (unless otherwise stated)

New York City Dance Week- August 8-12,10AM-2PM (Ages 11-18)

Jeffrey Ferguson teacher at Broadway Dance Center, NYC, delights us with his energy and his cutting edge jazz choreography. Intermediate and advanced students. $235

Motion Maniacs Dance Camp- June 27-July 1. Two levels (Ages 7-10) & (Ages 11-18).
Study Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet, Tap and the art of performance with Sarah Ricketts. Sarah is currently attending Cedar Crest College where she is receiving a Performing Arts Scholarship in Dance and is a member of the Ballet, Modern and Jazz Dance Companies. She has been a member of Motion Mania Dance Theatre. Intermediate/ Beginners through Intermediate/Advanced.

Motion Maniacs Dance Camp- July 18-22. Two levels (Ages 7-10) & (Ages 11-18)

Study Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet, and Tap and the art of performance with Sarah Ricketts. Sarah is currently attending Cedar Crest College where she is receiving a Performing Arts Scholarship in Dance and is a member of the Ballet, Modern and Jazz Dance Companies. She has been a member of Motion Mania Dance Theatre. Intermediate/Beginners through Intermediate/Advanced.

Gymnastics Camp- July 11-15, 10AM-2PM (Ages 8-18)

DANCERS NEED TO KNOW HOW TO TUMBLE! Learn how to do acrobatics. Included in the camp are a dance warm-up, conditioning exercises, and the how to of basic tumbling FOR CHOREOGRAPHY AND FOR AUDITIONS, from rolls to handsprings to aerials. Sue Dickerson works with each child at their own individual skill level.

Hip-Hop Camp - June 20-24, 10AM-2PM Ages (10-18).

This camp is designed to help you to improve your ability in Hip-Hop / Jazz/ Poms classes and auditions? Included is an eclectic Hip-Hop warm-up, conditioning exercises and choreography. Students will study various styles of the hip-hop genre. Taught by Kesha Johnson who has studied with hip-hop teachers such as Dion Watson, Bev B and has worked for Debbie Allen on several projects and has been a member of Motion Mania Dance Theatre. This is for all levels.
